Last year, especially during the second half of the year, Dr. Craig Wright was jet-setting worldwide to deliver one-off presentations at numerous events. While this was an amazing opportunity for those in the locations he visited, all the time in transit meant he did not have time to do what he loves doing most: Educating.
As we dive into 2023, it’s with enormous pleasure that Dr. Wright and nChain are facilitating a free The Bitcoin Masterclasses series throughout the year, to be led by Dr. Wright.
“I want people to understand how Bitcoin truly works and to get a clear understanding of the many factors that make Bitcoin scale securely whilst preserving identity and maintaining transparency. As the underlying protocol has been set in stone since 2009, Bitcoin is fit for now and—more importantly—fit for the future,” Dr. Wright added.
The beauty of these workshops is attendees who can make it in person will have an opportunity to share ideas with and ask questions to Dr. Wright in a more intimate and relaxed environment than a busy expo might provide. The sessions also will be live-streamed and recorded, but a lot of the magic will happen during the breaks—in person—with Dr. Wright.
“If people come to the workshops in person, I can discuss any challenges they might have with building Bitcoin apps and work through their issue to find the best solution for them. Face-to-face discussions are always better than online,” Dr. Wright said.
There will also be several nChain staff members at the workshop who can talk with attendees who have new business ideas for Bitcoin, but Dr. Wright will also make himself available to help take such ideas to the next level.
The themes of the first ten workshops have been identified already by Dr. Wright, with this week’s masterclass putting the spotlight on identity and privacy. As announced by Satoshi on Twitter, the upcoming ten Bitcoin workshops will include the following themes:
1-Identity & privacy
2-Multicast
3-Accounting & mapping transactions on-chain
4-NLOCKTIME & delayed transactions
5-EDI logistics & tracing goods
6-Overlay networks & encryption
7-IoT & IIoT
8-Ownership & recovery
9-Ordering & 1st seen
10-P2P & SPV
Each workshop will be independent of the others, meaning its not necessary for attendees to participate in all of them to benefit from the content.
“Not everyone will be interested in each workshop. They will attend the workshop that contains the topic that interests them. Developers will be interested in different workshops to Bitcoin architects,” Dr. Wright pointed out.
The first masterclass will take place in London on January 25-26 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. GMT. For those who are unable to make it in person, the livestream link will be shared two hours before the event begins, and the sessions will also be recorded for on-demand access in the future.
The agenda for the workshop is as follows:
Day 1 – January 25, 2023
09.00 – 09.30 Delegate Registration
09.00 – 11.00 Session 1: Confidentiality: Dr. Wright will discuss confidentiality in the realm of bitcoin and the blockchain.
He’ll explain how information is kept separate and confidential when transacting on the blockchain and how the data remains confidential—even though all the transactions are public on the blockchain.
11.00 – 11.15 Coffee Break
11.15 – 12.45 Session 2: Privacy: What does privacy mean in terms of the blockchain and bitcoin? How can privacy be achieved when people exchange information on bitcoin?
In this session, you will understand how real-world examples demonstrate privacy across transactions and data transfer.
12.45 – 13.45 Lunch
13.45 – 15.15 Session 3: Anonymity: Why anonymity differs from Privacy and Confidentially. Why does it matter?
Dr. Wright will discuss how the Ring of Gyges shows that invisibility and anonymity is the only barrier between a just and an unjust person.
15.15 – 15.30 Coffee Break
15.30 – 17.00 Session 4: Party to party: How party to party works in terms of transacting on the blockchain. How can you gain knowledge of the other party so that transactions can be carried out correctly?
Day 2 – January 26, 2023
09.00 – 09.30 Delegate Registration
09.00 – 11.00 Session 1: Day One Review and Discussion
11.00 – 11.15 Coffee Break
11.15 – 12.45 Session 2: Private Identity: Keeping your identity private on the blockchain is possible— even though transactions are completely transparent.
What is needed to prove your identity to transact?
12.45 – 13.45 Lunch
13.45 – 15.15 Session 3: Identity proofs
without a centralized authority; how is identity demonstrated on the blockchain without identity proofs such as age and driver’s licenses?
15.15 – 15.30 Coffee Break
15.30 – 17.00 Session 4: Topic Reviews
Review of audience discussion topics.
According to Dr. Wright via Twitter, each session will cover the main topic of the workshop—identity & privacy for this week—and also white papers and nChain patents. During next month’s workshop, Dr. Wright will explain how we can handle limits of millions of simultaneous transactions to all nodes and even have merchants and exchanges validate in microseconds.
