This week in Bitcoin and blockchain, lawmakers in the United States introduced a bill that could pave the way for greater research into blockchain technology.

Representatives Darren Soto, Brett Guthrie, and Doris Matsui introduced the draft legislation which would task the Secretary of Commerce to commence a formal study into blockchain tech, while introducing measures to protect the U.S. from blockchain rules and industries in other countries, including China.

The bill is seen as a response to measures in China, where authorities are already preparing a roll-out of the digital yuan domestically, which will allow citizens to pay for a range of goods with the currency via their digital wallets.

Meanwhile in South Korea, authorities have begun relying on blockchain technology to verify the identity of its citizens, igniting a fierce battle amongst the country’s leading tech companies for blockchain supremacy.

Led by three of the country’s leading telecoms companies, a scheme tied to the PASS driving license mobile ID platform has been in use since May, with over a million citizens already using the app to verify their identities.

Bitcoin SV wallet Centbee announced that its users are now able to withdraw funds directly to their bank accounts, making it more flexible than ever before for those using their Centbee business wallet for receiving money.

At the same time, Bitcoin powered social network platform Twetch has unveiled Twetch Chat, an encrypted chat service powered by BSV.
