nChain’s exciting new product will change the world: Julian Goddard

“Sometimes he goes off-topic, but he’s always got lots of interesting things to say, and it’s nice to hear these things,” Julian Goddard says of Dr. Craig Wright.

Goddard, the technical product lead at nChain, spoke to CoinGeek Backstage about The Bitcoin Masterclasses and nChain’s exciting new product.

Goddard was at The Bitcoin Masterclasses #6, in which Dr. Wright delved into central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), remittances, and how their integration with Bitcoin can transform the economies of developing nations. As he told CoinGeek Backstage in an interview, Dr. Wright believes the topic was timely as nChain starts working with the government of the Philippines.

The Masterclasses gave Goddard an appreciation of the critical role remittances play, especially in developing nations, he told CoinGeek Backstage host Becky Liggero. He also understood the recipients’ many challenges and how Bitcoin can solve most of them.

Goddard believes that integrating Bitcoin can solve most of the technical challenges, and in time, the socio-economic aspects will also align.

nChain has been working on CBDC solutions for several months, with Goddard playing a part in the company’s projects since last year, he revealed. One of the company’s guiding principles is flexibility, aware that governments will only integrate blockchain technology if it fits into their existing systems.

“We’re always trying to meet our customers’ requirements first, and where they don’t know [about blockchain nitty-gritty], we try to build our products as flexible as possible.”

Goddard commended the Masterclasses format in which Dr. Wright encourages the attendees to discuss the day’s topics in small groups, allowing everyone to contribute. This allows everyone to be involved and ask questions, and Dr. Wright “is very supportive of the audience and our contributions.”

As the technical product lead, Goddard is at the forefront of exploring new products that nChain develops. He says the company is currently working on “a new product that’s very exciting and is going to help change the world. It will make a difference to the way things work in the world.”
