Customer reward has taken a new turn as adult entertainment platform Tube8 announced its plans to pay its customers cryptocurrency for watching videos on the site, Hard Fork reported. Tube8, a subsidiary of Pornhub, has partnered with Vice Industry Token (VIT) to adopt blockchain and tokenization technologies on the website.
Tube8 is trying to introduce a relatively anonymous reward and participation systems for its 10 million users, and its collaboration is considered to be one of the biggest for VIT. Under the deal,
VIT will enable users of Tube8 earn VIT for watching or interacting with adult videos. The adult website, which claims to have 150 million page visits each month, will be the first platform of its kind to adopt token-based rewards and pay its users for their activities on the website.
Robin Turner, a Tube8 spokesperson, told Hard Fork that the collaboration has been a long time coming, pointing out that “getting paid to watch porn was always a pipedream.” Now, VIT has brought “a paradigm shift in how people consume adult entertainment.”
“As opposed to having to fork over money to consume content, which some sites require, our users will get paid to consume our free content. The more they interact with our videos, the more money they earn,” Turner said.
Users of Tube8 can now assess VIT whose protocol will be built on their favourite adult site. But before they can begin to monetize content, Tube8 users would have to create an account, log in, watch a few videos or interact with content to generate VIT and then get their rewards. Robin disclosed that there will be no extra charges and he hopes that the collaboration will be of benefit to both Tube8 and VIT in terms of increasing their engagement and user base.
The porn industry has been interacting with cryptocurrency and this is not its first time. Pornhub recently partnered with Verge (XVG) and Tron (TRX). The site, considered to be one of the largest pornographic sites, now accepts these cryptocurrencies as payments from its users. Playboy TV and Stormy Daniels have also integrated the cryptocurrency to their platform. On the other hand, VIT and adult entertainment company, Playboy, are having a legal battle over non-fulfilment of a partnership contract between them a few months ago.
