NFT, metaverse, and IPv6 are just some of the buzzwords of the year following the
blockchain boom in 2017.

Many famous personalities have been exploring the potential of blockchain technology, and in the Philippines, celebrities like actress Iza Calzado, model Paris Berelc, and host/entrepreneur Raymond Gutierrez took part in the Philippine Blockchain Week 2023 (PBW 2023) to gain more knowledge about the space.

On the sidelines of the PBW2023 event, CoinGeek Backstage reporter Claire Celdran had the opportunity to interview the trio who were invited by their friend Rembrandt Flores, who also joined the quick chat.

Flores, the founder of 8Commas—an amplification consultancy for NFT and digital currencies—joked that he’s at the conference to “impart some knowledge” about Web3 on people who were unfamiliar with it like Gutierrez, Calzado, and Barelc. The 8Commas founder joined a panel discussion in the PBW 2023 stage, which discussed ways to earn cash using blockchain technology.

“Being an actress, I want to know how we can monetize a lot of things [and] grow. And as a mother…I like want to understand this. Definitely, as a new mom, it’s the future, right? And I can’t resist change. I have to adapt to it and learn,” Calzado commented.

Speaking more about the panel discussion, Flores sees the importance of onboarding celebrities into Web3. He said, “We need to get people who don’t understand it. That’s why I brought Paris, Mon, and Iza, so they could represent the common person who doesn’t know anything. That everyone can ape into Web3, not just someone who’s like endemic to this world like me.”

During the interview, Celdran compared the concept of Web3 to the internet. When the internet boomed in the 1990s, only a few knew how to use it. However, as Celdran said, email came out, and then Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and everyone used the tech without the technical knowledge of how the internet works.

“I think today is going to be a very good learning process for us. We’re here to learn, have fun, meet people, so we’re ready to hit the stage,” Gutierrez concluded.
