From pet passports to property rentals: Block Dojo PH Cohort 2 explores blockchain’s real-world impact

Can we really use blockchain in real-world applications? Block Dojo Philippines’ cohort 2 examines this question in real estate, education, and pet registry areas.

In May, Block Dojo Philippines hosted it’s second bootcamp in Bataan, where six founders who have been looking for ways to integrate blockchain in their startups were present. Among them were Pierre Legislador, founder of Upraised (formerly Housewell); Gino Sampedro, founder of CertifyEd; and John Dometita, founder of Petopass.

Petopass secures your pet’s safety with pet passports

For all pet lovers, your furbaby has always been an important part of your life. When traveling abroad, you want to ensure their safety is a top priority—and John Dometita has found a way to resolve your worries with his app called “Petopass.”

“We’re trying to leverage blockchain technology in terms of improving pet identity and pet ownership. With the use of blockchain, we’ll be able to certify that this person owns this particular pet,” he said.

Petopass, now in the MVP stage, ensures that your pets’ data is secured in the chain. The app can provide owners with recommended services and products targeted towards pets with this data. Other features include exclusive veterinary discounts from Petopass’s pet-friendly partners.

Make sure your course gets ‘CertifyEd’ with blockchain

Have you ever completed an online course only to discover there is no certification to verify its legitimacy or completion? Gino Sampedro is finding ways for learners to get certified with his CertifyEd app.

“Whenever we talk about blockchain, we’re basically ensuring the integrity of the courses. That the course that you actually took is legit,” Sampedro remarked.

Currently, CertifyEd is working with local universities such as De La Salle University to co-brand courses. Students will earn a master’s unit once they complete the course. Sampedro shared that they are currently cobranding a gaming development course with De La Salle University that would be minted in the blockchain.

With blockchain’s transparency and immutable features, the legitimacy of the CertifyEd course could be proven, making it possible to add the certification to your portfolio for employers to find in the future, Sampedro said.

Passive income for real-estate owners thanks to Upraised

Owning real estate is extremely expensive, and maintaining your properties is a significant problem of its own, but thanks to Upraised, these problems could be solved.

Established by Pierre Legislador, Upraised is a platform where renovated houses are listed for leasing and rental fee collections are secured. The app is built on top of blockchain to offer transaction security and transparency.

“[Upraised] helps landlords to activate their properties back into the market and gives tenants more options for their house to have good design,” Legislador said.
