At the London Blockchain Conference, Centi CEO Bernhard Müller announced a new partnership with Centbee to power remittances from Switzerland to African countries. Combined with the all-new Centi stablecoin, the partnership could be a game-changer for millions in Africa who depend on these remittances, Müller tells CoinGeek Backstage.

Despite being one of the smaller European nations, Switzerland is one of the world’s biggest sources of remittances. It accounts for more remittances than the entire U.K., and a substantial amount goes to African countries, Müller told CoinGeek Backstage reporter Becky Liggero.

Based in South Africa, Centbee boasts one of the most extensive coverages of the African region within the digital asset space.

The partnership will combine Centbee’s diverse offramps and Centi’s onramps in Switzerland to offer low-cost and fast remittances, Müller pointed out.

Centi also recently launched the Centi Franc Stablecoin, the first of its kind in the BSV blockchain space. While there is an influx of stablecoins, Centi’s is the only one geared towards micropayments with a full bank guarantee.

Stablecoins have become a big part of the digital asset ecosystem, and a BSV blockchain-powered solution has been long-awaited. At the conference, Müller revealed he was approached by hundreds of enterprises, startups, and individuals, all interested in leveraging the stablecoin to build solutions in remittances and payments.

The Centi stablecoin is geared toward easing payments, which was Satoshi Nakamoto’s original intent with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin “is an electronic cash system. It says that right from the beginning. It’s there for micropayments, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

Micropayments and global remittances, which Centi is targeting, can only happen on a scalable blockchain with low fees like BSV blockchain, Müller added.

Additionally, stability is a critical factor. “We can’t work with a technology that keeps pulling the rug from under our feet all the time. Compliance is also super important.”
