The Philippines has set the pace with its adoption of Web3, NFTs, and the metaverse. Play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain games have been a big hit, and as one government official recently told CoinGeek, these games have been instrumental in “laymanizing blockchain for the masses.” While Axie Infinity may have dampened many Filipinos’ enthusiasm for P2E games, the country is still miles ahead of its neighbors in blockchain adoption.
The upcoming summit intends to tap into this enthusiasm. Its stellar lineup of speakers includes Felipe Medalla, the governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP); Emilio Aquino, the chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Martha Sazon, the chief executive officer of leading mobile payments platform GCash; and Eprom Galang, the General Manager of Coins.PH exchange.
Kenneth Stern, the General Manager for Binance Philippines, is also among the speakers. Stern grabbed the headlines recently when he claimed that Binance was in the process of acquiring a BSP-regulated entity after failing to secure a license itself. This didn’t go down well with many, with policy think tank Infrawatch PH writing to the central bank to ask that it thwarts the acquisition as it would give Binance a backdoor into the country.
Among the prominent topics at the event include the state of blockchain regulations in the Philippines, decentralized finance (DeFi), Web3 and its mass adoption in the country, Filipino women in blockchain, and revolutionizing art through NFTs and P2E gaming.
