Global leader in bitcoin advancements taps capital markets expert to drive expansion

LONDON, March 7, 2019 — nChain, a global leader in advisory, research and development of blockchain technologies, today announced David Washburn will join the rapidly growing organization as Chief Executive Officer of its London-based nChain Limited. Washburn, an established leader in the world’s financial industry, brings decades of knowledge to the CEO role. He replaces Jimmy Nguyen, who has been appointed Chair of nChain’s Strategic Advisory Board and will also serve as the Founding President of the Bitcoin Association to help build the Bitcoin SV infrastructure and ecosystem.

Blockchain Innovator nChain Appoints David Washburn as CEOWashburn’s appointment further exemplifies the extraordinary growth and influence of blockchain technologies. nChain’s solutions provide the financial industry and a variety of other businesses with more efficient means to conduct transactions and greater digital security for assets.

Washburn, who holds a Ph.D in physiology and biophysics, has over 15 years of experience in capital markets, most recently heading the Canadian division of a leading global investment bank

“I am very impressed with nChain’s vast collection of patents and intellectual property rights that ensures it will continue to be at the forefront of blockchain performance for many years to come. The Bitcoin SV blockchain allows traditional banking enterprises — as well as a diverse range of businesses — with a more cost-effective and secure platform for executing transactions. It saves time and money, a foundational hallmark of any technological disruptor,” says Washburn, a Canadian who joins nChain at an inflection point for the company.

With more than 10 years of research pertaining to blockchain technology, nChain deploys its intellectual property consisting of over 650 patents and patent applications relating to blockchain and cryptography and technical knowhow to help its enterprise clients become better equipped for operating in the high-tech era.

The progression of bitcoin and blockchain technology is reflected in the results of a recent Deloitte study, entitled Global Blockchain Survey. Conducted with 1,000 banks, the report revealed that 95% of respondents intend to make some level of investment in blockchain or Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) during 2019 to help address some of their most complex cost and operational challenges they face.

“nChain’s expertise and focus on solving business problems through Bitcoin SV and blockchain technology gives it and its customers greater chances of success in the fast-changing world of digital finance,” Washburn says.

Jimmy Nguyen, Chair of nChain’s Strategic Advisory Board, says: “nChain’s professional service division has experienced significant growth over the last year, working with clients across financial services. With the addition of David Washburn, we are looking to significantly scale and deliver value to all of our clients across the globe.”
