Days after it announced a new manager, Ayr United in soccer’s Scottish League scored an impressive victory against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Championship. The CoinGeek-sponsored team now sits in second in the Championship Table, right behind Dundee United.
The game took place this past Saturday and it didn’t take long for Ayr United to show its strength. Just ten minutes into the first half, Craig Moore scored the first goal for the team, with Michael Moffat and Alan Forrest following with their own. Moore would go on to score the team’s fourth, and last goal, just after coming back from halftime, allowing Ayr United to easily cruise to a 4-1 victory.
The win gives the team an 8-4 record and 24 points, three more than third-place Dundee and the same amount less than Dundee United. It was a proud moment for the entire squad, as well as for new manager Mark Kerr. He has been a part of Ayr United since last year as a player, and was confirmed as its new boss last week. Kerr will hold the position until at least May 2021.
After the victory, Kerr stated, “I’m loving my life as a manager, I’ve waited for my opportunity and I’m pinching myself that I’ve got a team at the top of the Championship. I know what I can bring to this club, the boys know what I can bring and I know what they can give me so I’m comfortable in the role right now.”
The win came on the heels of another important victory. On October 29, the team beat Dundee United in a contest that had soccer fans on their feet from the first whistle. Four goals were scored in the first 16 minutes of play, with Ayr United taking the lead. The second half saw both teams battling for position, but it was Ayr United who would set the pace and take the victory, 3-2. That was Kerr’s first win as the team’s new manager.
CoinGeek began sponsoring Ayr United, also known as The Honest Men, this past April. Instead of branding the team with any CoinGeek-related items, though, it chose to present BSV on team jerseys and other channels. The decision to sponsor Ayr Media comes as a means to an end, allowing for front-line recognition of the cryptocurrency and its potential—just like that of Ayr United.
