Build your city with BSV: Cityonchain review

How awesome would it be to own a city? Pretty great, right? Well, now you can own your city with Cityonchain (CoC). The platform allows its users to become city owners, but unlike in the Monopoly game, owning a city on CoC has real monetary value. However, CoC offers much more than just the ownership of a city, allowing its users to earn and spend BSV by curating high-quality information.

CoC is an on-chain world built on the Bitcoin SV (BSV) blockchain with thousands of cities from across the globe. The platform currently has over 9,000 cities. Once you visit its website, you can become the proud owner of the city of your choice by bidding for it. Initially, the cities all cost $1, but they sold out quickly. The current city owners get to decide what price their cities should go for.

Once you become a city owner, you can assign it one of two statuses: for sale or not for sale. If you decide to sell, you get to dictate how much your city is worth. As a city owner, you have control over what happens in your city. For instance, in the City Chat app, you can get to set the chat room name and edit the city’s ad slot.

The biggest advantage of being a city owner is that you get to earn from the activities that take place inside your city. For instance, on the City Chat app, any user who posts a message has to pay $0.01 to the city owner. This ensures that the information provided is of the highest quality, setting CoC apart from non-blockchain applications which invite all sorts of trolls.

You don’t have to be the city owner to earn from CoC. The platform allows the users to earn as well for providing high quality information. When a user posts on the chat room, other users can ‘Like’ his messages and for this, they get to tip $0.1. Of this, $0.07 goes to the person who provided the information while $0.02 gets to go to the city owner. The remaining amount goes to the platform.

CoC may have started as a simple application which allows people to provide quality information about their cities, but it has become much more. The platform has become quite vibrant, with people from all walks of life and this has led to the formation of friendships from people residing in the same cities and beyond.

The platform has also brought people together in times of need to galvanize resources and even spread hope. In China, the owner of a city which suffered a major geological disaster has turned the city’s chat room into a platform where people share memories and spread hope. In yet another city, the owner has started a charitable cause, raising funds to help liberate his people from poverty.

The potential of CoC is unmatched by any other such platform. One of the biggest advantages is that it offers its users the opportunity to earn, in line with the BSV philosophy of being the ‘Earn and Spend’ cryptocurrency. This allows the users to commercialize their information, their pictures and more. Previously, people have had to provide this information for free. The best part about it is that it doesn’t matter where you are located as every city has a large population of people, both natives and visitors who are in need of high quality information.

CoC especially favors people who reside in places that receive plenty of visitors. And while you may think of the major global cities like New York and London, smaller cities in Africa, Asia and Latin American also receive many visitors every year, especially for their natural scenery. Providing info to chat rooms for these cities could make you quite some money.

By bringing people together, CoC also offers them the opportunity to work together on initiatives of diverse nature. Be it helping others during times of disasters, organizing communal events, sensitizing people about what areas are unsafe, there are no limitations when people come together.

The Genesis protocol upgrade on February 4, 2020 is a monumental step in the history of Bitcoin, and will see BSV returned as close as possible to the original protocol as envisioned by Satoshi Nakamoto. Visit the Genesis Hard Fork page to learn more.
