BCH network stress test set for September
This September, an experiment to test the limits of the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) network will kick off around 12:00 PM UTC. The test will simultaneously process millions of low-fee transactions, betting operations and game play to see how the network responds. Members of the BCH community are encouraged to participate in the collective effort to push the boundaries of the digital currency.
After a network upgrade in May, the BCH block size was increased to 32 megabytes (MB), up from the 8MB seen prior to the event. The BCH network is now one of the most robust in the world, and allows for significantly more transactions than other cryptocurrency networks. While a number of individuals have scoffed at the increase, it supports BCH’s position of wanting to be the top digital currency for the retail industry, and the 32MB block size gives it the ability to process more transactions than PayPal or Visa.
The stress test will be led by a group behind the website, stresstestbitcoin.cash. The group will start running some automated computer scripts to cover the transactions at noon when the testing begins before moving on to other activities such as placing bets on Satoshi Dice and other sites, and also playing various games across the network.
In order to allow BCH enthusiasts to participate in the test, Spendbch.io, with assistance from Bitbox, has created and published a tool that will allow them to join in. The tool, an open source node.js app, provides the automated script, allowing anyone to install it on his or her computer to run in conjunction with the test. It is currently just a “starting point,” and a bounty of 1 BCH is being offered for an advanced application that would be available for all computer platforms. The tool can be found on a Github repository here.
Bitbox.earth creator Gabriel Cardona, as well as other BCH fans, have recently seen a spike in transactions on the network. He mentioned the script on Twitter, saying, “Big increase in bitcoin cash transaction count since yesterday. Here’s the script from Spendbch.io if you’d like to play along—Let’s stress test BCH to prove to the world we can scale.”
BCH enthusiasts should mark their calendars for September 1 to either watch or participate in the test. BCH deniers should, as well, so they can see what the network is capable of, and what others aren’t.
Note: Tokens on the Bitcoin Core (SegWit) chain are referenced as BTC coins; tokens on the Bitcoin Cash ABC chain are referenced as BCH, BCH-ABC or BAB coins.
Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) is today the only Bitcoin project that follows the original Satoshi Nakamoto whitepaper, and that follows the original Satoshi protocol and design. BSV is the only public blockchain that maintains the original vision for Bitcoin and will massively scale to become the world’s new money and enterprise blockchain.
