CoinGeek was founded by Calvin Ayre, the celebrated entrepreneur who was among the first to identify gambling as tailor-made for the early internet. But it was Ayre’s ability to associate his Bodog brand with a variety of non-gambling businesses that ultimately led Forbes to put him on the cover of their 2006 ‘Billionaires’ issue.

After leaving the gaming industry, Ayre became an early advocate of Bitcoin. But his interest grew significantly in 2015 when Stefan Matthews, a former online gambling exec who was running Ayre’s venture capital arm, introduced him to Dr. Craig Wright, the individual behind the Satoshi Nakamoto pseudonym credited with authoring the Bitcoin white paper in 2008.

A self-serving group of developers had taken advantage of Satoshi’s temporary withdrawal from the public stage by imposing artificial constraints on Bitcoin. These changes forced users onto proprietary ‘layer 2’ blockchains under these developers’ control, resulting in the function-free BTC token that the developers falsely promoted as the original Bitcoin.

Ayre, Matthews and Wright met in Vancouver in 2015, a meeting that laid the groundwork for saving the original Bitcoin protocol. The trio made it their mission to restore Bitcoin to its original vision as an enterprise-level data management and valuation protocol as well as a viable platform for online nano-payments. This was achieved in 2018, when original protocol Bitcoin was freed of its artificial constraints. Because alternative protocols colluded with corrupt exchanges to steal the original trading tickers, Bitcoin now trades on exchanges as Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV)

Along the way, Wright’s history as Satoshi was doxed by Gizmodo and Wired, leading to an active campaign to diminish Wright’s influence and discredit BSV in the process. In response, Ayre launched CoinGeek to counter this misinformation and provide readers with a truer sense of what Bitcoin was intended to accomplish.

CoinGeek provides timely news on the latest developments in the Enterprise Utility Blockchain industry, featuring the community’s brightest and most creative minds to give you the best insights on the current state and direction of the BSV Blockchain, the most disruptive technology of the 21st century. We achieve this by crafting Bitcoin guides and analyses based on diligent research, ardent study, and thorough review by trusted industry experts.

In 2018, CoinGeek expanded into the live event sector with the first CoinGeek Conference in Hong Kong. The Conference brought together entrepreneurs, developers, venture capitalists, policymakers, government regulators, journalists, miners, transaction processors and executives of established big enterprise businesses to further explore BSV’s disruptive potential. After seven successful outings on three continents, the CoinGeek Conference was rechristened the BSV Global Blockchain Convention, making its debut in Dubai in May 2022.
